Thelma put on her usual feast for breakfast so we headed off to Comox with full stomachs. Thelma and Brian were fantastic hosts. I told them we would give them a five star recommendation on Trip Advisor so they should have all kinds of freeloaders like us knocking on their door.

The weather wasn't brilliant but as Brian said it was only a sea fog and as soon as we left Victoria we came out of it. When we did the guided tour of old Victoria in the museum the guide told us of this park on the way to Comox that had huge Douglas firs so we turned off the highway at the sign for Goldstream park. Unfortunately we missed the actual park entrance which was on the road and not 10kms down a narrow bumpy road that lead nowhere. Never mind we discovered our mistake and visited the information centre where a young park ranger gave us the drum. After hugging trees and checking out one that had fallen down a few weeks before across the car park crushing a car, luckily no one was in the car, we continued north on highway 1 and stopped at a medical centre in Nanoose Bay for lunch ..... all very healthy. We arrived in Comox around 2pm so as our room wasn't ready we headed round to Richard and Avril's place for afternoon tea. Their daughter Andrea was there with her two little boys Neil (2) and Rawson (5). She teaches in Calgary but also records songs and has a couple of albums. We went back to the motel to "dress" for dinner and Richard picked us up in his 1995 Jaguar Sovereign. He uses it as his work car and not a collector's item. Richard cooked hamburgers and we had fresh oysters from the local beach ... all very tasty. We had a good old chinwag and eventually Richard drove us back to our motel via the ferry terminal where we were getting the ferry early the next morning. After the copious wine and beer we drank we slept well.
