7th July 2016 - Victoria BC - Kms to date 2753

Kms today zero but we did drive Thelma's Jag into town.

We woke to grey dismal skies so Butchart Gardens were out and we decided to visit the BC Museum instead.  Thelma offered us her Jag so I volunteered to drive and Alan navigated.
The first exhibition we checked out was all about Mammoths and at the entrance we were given a genuine piece of Mammoth tusk to hold. Mammoths are not ancestors of modern elephants, but developed in parallel from the same earlier animal Proboscidai. There were movies about Mammoths in the iMax but we gave that a miss. Next part was about native Indian languages and the way the European settlers tried to eliminate them in much the same way as happened to Australian aborigines.  We then hooked up with a guided tour and learned about the fur trade, railway across Canada, Indian culture and the gold rush.  That was enough and we had to get back to Brian and Thelma's to get ready to go out for dinner. We had Thai food and it was very good but every beer I chose was off the menu. Brian and Alan wisely took the waitresses initial recommendation.
